Route 1 Project - Weekly Update (6-9-15)

FALMOUTH ROUTE ONE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT 
Construction Update #40 – June 9, 2015
The following information reflects the latest available information regarding the Route One Infrastructure Project in Falmouth. Please note that forward-looking information is based upon projections and is subject to change due to weather and other variables.

WORK HOURS: 
Work in the Route One Infrastructure Project zone for the remainder of this week will begin at approximately 6:00 a.m. and last until approximately 4:30 p.m.  Night work involving utilities cutovers to individual businesses may also occur. Cutover work will be scheduled directly between utilities contractors and the businesses themselves.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
There’s a lot going on in the Route 1 corridor right now. Although there’s still plenty of work to do, you can now start seeing how some of the new features along the corridor will look.

The most visible sign is the installation of the new roadway lighting poles and fixtures. Although these fixtures will be located on both sides of the road, they have only been installed on the west side at this time.  After all poles and fixtures have been installed, decorative features will be placed around their bases to increase their aesthetic appeal.  Please take a look at them when you get a chance and notice some of the new features. These LED fixtures are energy efficient and extremely durable. The Town’s design team spent a considerable amount of time reviewing and selecting these important design features.

Although there’s still underground cable to pull for transitioning from overhead to underground power and communications, we’re in the final stages of significant cable and conduit installations. Oxford Networks should have the last of its major pulls done within the next week.

Unfortunately the commencement of installing street trees did not occur this week. However, the current projection is for tree planting to start sometime next week (subject, of course, to delivery and weather conditions).

WORK CURRENTLY UNDERWAY:

As of Tuesday, June 8, work includes the following:
•    Sargent Corporation continues with grading, loaming and hydroseeding. 
•    Sargent is installing highway signage along the corridor.
•    Moulison North is installing street lighting and working on various wiring and control systems.
•    Moulison North has been preparing for the wire pulls related to the new traffic signals.

WORK YOU’RE LIKELY TO SEE THROUGH THE END OF THIS WEEK:
•    Continued installation of roadway lighting and control systems.
•    Continued installation of roadway signage.
•    Curbing work – Granite curb will be installed primarily along the west side of Route One. Please watch for flagger-controlled lane shifts near these small work zones.
•    Moulison North will be working on the installation of actuator systems for the new crosswalk signal systems.

PHOTOGRAPHS: 

This view is looking south from the front of Keybank. You can see the new street lighting poles which now grace much of the west side of the corridor (these lights will probably be energized sometime around the end of the month). You can see new grass beginning to take hold (grass “catch”) in the hydro-seeded areas. 

 
In this photo, we see what’s called an “inner-duct.” An inner-duct is essentially a conduit-within-a-conduit; it helps protect fiberoptic cable. Here, we see a subcontractor team for Oxford Networks in the process of installation. You may have noticed another crew today at the corner of Bucknam Road. This is the last major underground utility installation.
