When are property taxes collected in Falmouth?
Real Estate property taxes are billed and collected twice each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).  The due dates for fiscal year 2023-2024 real estate property taxes are the first Thursday in November and the first Thursday in the following May.  Taxes paid after those due dates are assessed a penalty interest rate of 8%.  Personal property taxes (business equipment, machinery, etc.) are billed once each fiscal year.  The due date for personal property taxes is December 1st.  Personal property taxes paid after this date are assessed a penalty interest rate of 8%.

What is the current property tax rate?
The Town’s fiscal year is July 1 – June 30.  The current 2023-2024 tax rate is $12.64 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation, assessed at 100% of market value. By State law, 2023-2024 taxes are assessed to the owner of record on April 1, 2023.

 
What if I can't pay my property taxes?
Any citizen may apply for a property tax abatement for their primary residence for reasons of infirmity or poverty. The state law governing such application is provided below. Applications are available online or through the Town Clerk’s office. All applications are confidential are reviewed and decided by the Town Council in a non-public session. The Town Council then publicly votes on the abatement request without reference to the particular property or to the property owner.


When does the Town collect sewer payments?
Sewer charges are billed monthly by the Portland Water District (PWD) and are included as part of the PWD’s monthly water bill. Questions regarding sewer charges can be directed either to the Portland Water District at 761-8310 or to the Town’s Wastewater department at 781-4462.

What department do I call if I have questions regarding vehicle registrations and excise tax payments, and licenses?

When does the Town collect ambulance fees?
Ambulance bills are prepared by a third-party billing service, Medical Reimbursement Services, Inc., P.O. Box 1810, Windham, ME 04062.  Inquiries regarding ambulance bills should be directed to this number (207-892-0020).
For those eligible, Medicare is billed directly by the billing service.  Medicare recipients are still responsible for the amount of their co-payments.
