Historic Falmouth - Blackstrap Logging
The water pipe you see here is an artifact dating back to the 1920s, when a logging operation was underway in this area. The pipe drew water from the river to a portable steam powered sawmill that turned the logs into boards right on site. The slabs of bark and waste wood produced by this process would have been used as fuel to generate the steam needed to run the mill. Once the area had been harvested, the mill was packed up and moved to another site.
