Transfer Station

Updates and Information During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Updated June 5, 2020

On June 2, the Transfer Station resumed normal hours of operation (Tue and Thu.: 12:00-4:00; Fri.: 7:00-5:00; Sat.: 9:00-5:00).

Also, beginning June 2, the facility will collect all disposal items, with the exception of two items: Bargain Barn and bottle donation drop-offs (please continue to use the bottle drop-off location at Central Fire Station on Bucknam Road).  Residents and contractors who need to use disposal tickets will also need to wear a protective face covering when making this transaction. Social distancing procedures also will remain in place until further notice.

Social Distancing and Safety

  • Follow additional signage regarding new safety and social distancing rules.
  • Both residents and employees must follow social distancing rules.
  • Town employees will not assist with handling materials. Residents will drop off their own items.
  • Attendants will manage access to each area to ensure that safe social distancing can occur.

It should be noted that the Transfer Station has been closed for several weeks during a time when spring cleanup occurs. Therefore, a high volume of use is anticipated upon reopening. If the Transfer Station is crowded when you arrive, consider returning at another time.

All of the above is subject to change at the discretion of Public Works management. In the event it is determined that social distancing cannot properly be maintained, this procedure will be modified accordingly.

Curbside Pick-Up

Curbside pick-up will continue for recycling and trash. Trash and recycling bins must be curbside by 7:00am to ensure pick-up. Overflow bags and cardboard packaging that does not fit in bins may be placed to the side of the bin. At this time the Town is still requiring the use of yellow Town of Falmouth trash bags. Falmouth Town trash bags are available and in stock at local stores as usual. However, we understand it may be difficult or undesirable for some residents to visit a grocery store to purchase Town trash bags at this time, particularly seniors, those who are disabled, or those who are immunocompromised. If you are having difficulty accessing or acquiring Town trash bags, please contact the Public Works department at 207-781-3919 for assistance.
