Route 1 Project - Weekly Update (5-26-15)

FALMOUTH ROUTE ONE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT

Construction Update #38 – May 26, 2015

The following information reflects the latest available information regarding the Route One Infrastructure Project in Falmouth. Please note that forward-looking information is based upon projections and is subject to change due to weather and other variables.

WORK HOURS:

Work in the Route One Infrastructure Project zone for the remainder of this week will begin at approximately 6:00 a.m. and last until approximately 4:30 p.m.  There is no overnight work scheduled for this week.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

If you haven’t been on Route One lately, we invite you to stop in. For one thing, the businesses along the corridor would love to see you. For another: even though it’s still obviously a construction zone, it’s now possible to examine a considerable number of sections and envision what it’s going to look like in a few months.

That’s especially true on the west side of the road, where much of the sidewalk area has been backfilled with loam and hydro-seeded.  It’s true that the existing perennial flowering plants (such as azaleas) are rather vibrant right now – and that helps – but bear in mind that the landscaping plan calls for flowering trees along the corridor. You won’t have to squint very hard to visualize it!

Four businesses have already been cut over to the new electrical power system, and we’ve received word that Fairpoint is now fully read to begin cutovers – as are Time Warner Cable and CMP (Oxford Networks still has some cable to run).

This means that Time Warner, Fairpoint and CMP can coordinate with Moulison North and Sargent Corporation to schedule cutovers with individual businesses. The goal is to do much of the cutover work at night, with all three utilities working simultaneously at each property. Businesses will be contacted individually with proposed schedules, and the utilities will work with businesses to optimize the process and create the smallest amount of disruption possible.

In the next several weeks you’re going to see some significant progress. For example, later this week, crews will begin standing the poles for road lighting; traffic signal poles are likely to be installed beginning the week of June 8 (south to north). Curbing work is expected to resume that week as well.

WORK CURRENTLY UNDERWAY:

As of Tuesday, May 26, crews were working on – or have completed – the following:

  • Moulison North has built several pads for the control cabinets for traffic signal lighting.
  • Moulison has received shipments of the street and pedestrian lighting poles.  These are in inventory offsite, and will be brought in shortly.
  • Sargent has continued with general site cleanup and backfill, along with hydro-seeding the sidewalk areas.

WORK YOU’RE LIKELY TO SEE THROUGH THE END OF THIS WEEK:

  • Installation of street light poles and fixtures
  • Installation of pads for street light and pedestrian light control cabinets
  • Continued installation of loam and hydro-seeding. Please note that due to current dry conditions, water trucks may occasionally make runs of the corridor to ensure that seed has sufficient water to germinate.
  • Continued small scale work at some of the “drops” (where utilities leave the overhead service and enter the duct bank – mostly on side streets).
  • Sargent expects to complete the storm drainage system near the Foreside Tavern/Norway Savings Bank either late this week or early next.

We’re looking north from the entrance to the Shops at Falmouth (Staples, Ricetta’s, Pet Quarters, etc.) This area has been backfilled with loam and hydro-seeded. Much of the west side of Route One has had similar work, and grade work on the east side is currently occurring.
