Route 1 Project Weekly Update (5-27)

The following information reflects what you are likely to see on Route One in Falmouth in the upcoming seven days. Please note that this is a projection based on the best available information at the time that it was sent and is subject to change due to weather and other variables.

WORK HOURS:

For the next seven days, crews are expected to work from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays. No weekend or overnight work is expected during the period.

WORK CURRENTLY UNDERWAY:

As of Tuesday, May 27, work is occurring near the People’s United Bank, where sewer pipes are being replaced.  This is in anticipation of installing the underground power and communications conduit.

Crews are generally maintaining two-way traffic by merging southbound vehicles into the center (turning) lane. Short periods of one-way traffic affecting the southbound side are occasionally necessary in order to move heavy equipment.

WORK YOU MAY SEE IN THE UPCOMING WEEK:

Crews must dig one or more test pits to identify the precise location of various pipes, which include the water main and sewer main lines. Most of these pits will occur off the roadways and will not impact traffic flow. However, one important test pit excavation will have to be dug at the intersection of Route One and Clearwater Drive on Thursday, May 29th. Crews will begin this work in the early afternoon to minimize disruption to morning traffic.  Additional flaggers will be utilized to maintain traffic while working near this intersection. The work area will be restored and fully available to traffic by Thursday evening.

Moulison North, the sub-contractor who will be installing the underground conduit, will begin their work on Wednesday, May 28th.  Due to pipe delivery logistics, the work location has changed since last week’s update.  The work will begin near the People’s United Bank location and move north towards Falmouth Station.  Access to businesses will be maintained during construction and additional flaggers will be utilized to assist motorists.

Sargent Corp. will continue working on replacing sewer services along the westerly sideline of Route One over the next 7 days.
