Route 1 Project - Weekly Update (6-24-14)

FALMOUTH ROUTE ONE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT

Construction Update #7, June 24, 2014

The following information reflects what you are likely to see on Route One in Falmouth in the upcoming seven days. Please note that this is a projection based on the best available information at the time that it was sent and is subject to change due to weather and other variables.

WORK HOURS:

For the next seven days, crews are expected to work from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays. No weekend or overnight work is expected during the period.

So that you may plan ahead: night work for some road crossings will begin on the evening of Sunday, July 6 or Monday, July 7. These crossings involve both Route One and Clearwater Road.  During this five-day period, alternating one-way traffic will be required in some locations. You may expect to see night operations from approximately 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during this five day period.

Two-way traffic will be restored during daytime operations, which will continue during this period on its normal schedule. At the end of this week, weather permitting, areas where road openings occurred (on Route One, and on cross streets and driveways impacted by construction) will be repaved.

WORK CURRENTLY UNDERWAY:

As of Tuesday, June 24th, work is occurring in various locations:

  • Installation of underground ducts and electrical manhole near People’s Bank and in front of the  Foreside Place/True North Complex
  • Tree removal in front of Wendy’s.

WORK YOU MAY SEE IN THE UPCOMING WEEK:

  • Moulison North, the sub-contractor who is installing the underground conduit, will continue installing underground conduits and manholes near Foreside Place and Gorham Savings Bank.
  • Installation of an electrical manhole near Allen Sterling and Lothrop on Wednesday, June 25th.
  • Installation of an electrical manhole near Morong Falmouth (east side) on Thursday, June 26th.
  • Installation of new pedestrian light pole bases, between Waldo’s and A Perfect Smile (includes the frontage of 170 US Route 1 and Simply Home), beginning Wednesday, June 25th.

Sargent Corp. will be performing the following work:

  • Drainage system work in front of Wal-Mart(Wednesday).
  • Drainage work along the front of Wendy’s.
  • Preparation of sidewalk areas on the southwesterly end of the project (A perfect smile, 170 US Route 1, Simply Home, and Waldo’s).
  • Next week, Sargent is planning on replacing a large drain manhole between the properties of Pratt Abbott Cleaners and McDonald’s.

OTHER ITEMS:

Construction schedules are subject to change, in part because the installation of the conduit bank is occurring faster than scheduled and in part due to shifting delivery schedules of items such as pre-cast utility structures.

At today’s construction forecast meeting, the Town expressed concern regarding an installation of which it hadn’t been notified. Contractors and engineers have pledged to alert the Town of significant changes of this nature at least 24 hours in advance, so that we can let abutting businesses know. If such a change occurs that only affects one or two businesses, we’ll attempt to notify you by phone; if it affects more, we’ll issue an update using e-mail distribution.

PHOTOGRAPHS:

The bottom half of the electrical manhole is lifted and carefully swung into position.

The crew carefully aligns the structure over the pit and lowers it into place.

The foreman descends into the bottom half and carefully checks for level. It is perfect, thanks to careful preparation before the hoist. The black strip (gasket) on top of the structure is installed to seal the top section to the bottom.
