Summary
Ordinance to amend the Code of Ordinances, Chapter II, Article 8, relative to the regulation of plastic shopping bags.
A public comment period will not be included as public comment was taken at an earlier date.
ACTION: Council action is anticipated.
Description
The Falmouth Town Council tasked the Recycling and Energy Advisory Committee (REAC) with researching and developing a policy recommendation regarding single-use shopping bags and asked the Ordinance Committee to draft an ordinance based on those recommendations. The Ordinance Committee, working with staff and the Town Attorney, drafted an ordinance amendment using most of the Portland ordinance with some differences.
A copy of a presentation given by REAC, the proposed ordinance, and a letter of introduction from the Ordinance Committee are attached.
