2016.03.28 Council Agenda Item 12

Summary

Introduction of a series of zoning amendments to implement Year 1 Comprehensive Plan strategies as identified by the Town Council.

A public comment period will not be included.

ACTION: Schedule public hearing.

Description

The Community Development Committee (CDC) will present a series of zoning amendments that implement certain land use policy recommendations as assigned by the Council in the spring of 2015.  These recommendations, including the designation of Rural and Growth Areas, were established through the adoption of the 2014 Comprehensive Plan and subsequent policy work assigned to the Long-range Planning Committee and CDC.  Generally, the goal is to develop land use provisions that result in the majority of growth occurring in the established Residential and Mixed Use Growth Areas of town. These include methods to allow infill and reduce nonconformities in the Residential Growth Area and to limit growth and continue to preserve open space in the Residential Rural areas.  The CDC has been working on the amendments to implement these recommendations for nearly a year and have conducted several public input sessions during that time.

A presentation will be made at the meeting of the work that has been done. A copy of the presentation is attached below, along with a letter of introduction from the CDC, a memo from the Community Development Director, the proposed zoning amendment language, and informational matrices.
