Route 1 Project - Weekly Update (11-4-14)

FALMOUTH ROUTE ONE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT

Construction Update #28, November 4, 2014

The following information reflects what you’re likely to see on Route One in Falmouth in the upcoming seven days. Please note that this is a projection based on the best available information at the time that it was sent and is subject to change due to weather and other variables.

WORK HOURS:

Work in the Route One Infrastructure Project zone for the remainder of this week and into next will begin at approximately 6:00 a.m. and last until approximately 6:00 p.m. Some paving operations may start slightly earlier and/or last slightly later.  Site contractors are planning on working the Veterans Day holiday next Tuesday.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

There’s a lot of activity in the project area.  Although some snow occurred on Sunday, construction is expected to continue through November.

The focus for the remaining weeks of construction will be the completion of service conduits for underground utilities, paving driveways and sidewalks, and installing the granite curb.

There is a possibility that visible work may continue beyond November. For example, one or more of the telecommunications companies may choose to begin pulling fiber optic cable through the duct bank before spring. Most of this work, however, is likely to be out of the right-of-way and is unlikely to produce significant impacts to traffic and businesses.

WORK CURRENTLY UNDERWAY:

As of Tuesday, November 4, crews were working on – or have completed – the following:

  • Preparing the entrance to Pratt Abbott Cleaners with gravel. Paving of the entrance apron is anticipated to occur on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.
  • Preparing the entrance to Norway Savings and Foreside Tavern with gravel. Paving of the entrance apron is anticipated to occur on Wednesday.
  • The natural gas pipeline has been installed throughout the project area along Route 1. The new mains have also been ‘activated’, meaning that gas is flowing through the pipes.
  • Mast arm base installations (these bases support the masts and arms for traffic signals) are continuing; the last one is being installed today at the Bucknam Road intersection.
  • All of the stormwater treatment devices, called ‘bio-filters’, have been installed.
  • Conduit installation for utility services for the F.O. Bailey business.

WORK YOU’RE LIKELY TO SEE IN THE UPCOMING SEVEN DAYS:

  • Preparing and paving sidewalks and driveway entrances will be the main focus of Sargent Corp.’s work in the upcoming week.  This work is primarily on the easterly side of Route 1. Work will start near the Shaw’s Plaza and work south toward Fundy Road, which includes: Rite Aid, Pratt-Abbott, McDonalds, and the Subway/Dunkin’ Donuts sites.
  • Paving of the road crossing trench across Route 1 near the Foreside Tavern on Wednesday.
  • Tactile warning strips, which alert the sight-impaired to the presence of a road or driveway crossing, will be installed on Friday and into next week.
  • Expect to see significant amounts of curbing work this week, along the radii of business entrances.

OTHER NOTES:

Next week’s update may occur on Wednesday morning, rather than the usual Tuesday afternoon.
