Route 1 Project Weekly Update (5-20)

FALMOUTH ROUTE ONE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT

Construction Update #2, May 20, 2014

The following information reflects what you are likely to see on Route One in Falmouth in the upcoming seven days. Please note that this is a projection based on the best available information at the time that it was sent and is subject to change due to weather and other variables.

WORK HOURS:

For the next seven days, crews are expected to work from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays. No weekend or overnight work is expected during the period.

WORK CURRENTLY UNDERWAY:

Tree clearing for the entire project, along with drainage work on the west side of the road has already occurred. This work is in preparation for trenching for the underground conduit/utilities and other improvements.

As of Tuesday, May 20, much of this work remains in the vicinity of the Falmouth Veterinary Hospital and Waldo’s.  Both businesses remain accessible. Crews are generally maintaining two-way traffic by merging southbound vehicles into the center (turning) lane. Short periods of one-way traffic affecting the southbound side are occasionally necessary in order to move heavy equipment.

WORK YOU MAY SEE IN THE UPCOMING WEEK:

Crews must dig one or more test pits to identify the precise location of various pipes, which include the water main and sewer main lines. Most of these pits will occur off the roadways and will not impact traffic flow. However, one pit will have to be dug at the intersection of Route One and Clearwater Drive (just south of Walmart). If this is necessary, work crews and flaggers will be assigned to redirect traffic and the traffic signals will be monitored to ensure adequate levels of traffic flow.

Sargent Corp. will be replacing portions of the following sewer services to facilitate the new underground power installation:  Falmouth Station and People’s United Bank.  There will be no disruption in sewer system usage as part of this work.

Moulison North, the sub-contractor who will be installing the underground conduit, will begin their work next Tuesday, May 27th.  Work will begin on the southerly portion of the project near ‘A Perfect Smile’ and ‘Simply Home’ businesses.

OTHER ITEMS:

The Town is compiling a ‘business directory’ which will assist with the communications effort by the Town.  Also, Sargent Corp. will be utilizing this contact information to better coordinate with businesses that have only one entry point on the westerly side of Route 1.
