Description

On May 23, 2016 the Town Council accepted the 2016 Falmouth Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. Around October 13, 2016 the Town was notified by MaineDOT of an October 20, 2016 meeting to take public comment on proposed rehabilitation of the Lunt Road and Bucknam Road bridges over Interstate 295. At and after the meeting, MaineDOT officials appeared to be receptive to the Town's request to consider additional bicycle and pedestrian improvements on these two bridges and view these projects in the larger context of other transportation improvements that are being contemplated by MaineDOT, PACTS, and the Town for this area.

The proposed revisions are listed on pages 8, 10, 14, and 17 and intended to clarify the Town's intent regarding bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Lunt and Bucknam Roads as the MaineDOT bridge projects may present an ideal opportunity to improve pedestrian and bicycle access on these bridges as well as their approaches. Staff believes that formal documentation of the Town's intent through a revised plan will add strenght to the Town's October 20 request and will increase the likelihood that the MaineDOT projects will complement the bicycle and pedestrian improvements that the Town would like to see on Lunt and Bucknam Roads.
