This week Maine Governor Janet Mills announced some changes to the public health protocols for COVID-19. Specifically, she announced that on May 24 the State of Maine will:

  • lift all capacity limits and requirements to physically distance in all public outdoor settings.
  • lift all capacity limits in public indoor venues. Physical distancing requirements are also eliminated, except in settings where people are eating or drinking and therefore would be removing their face covering
    • such as indoor restaurants, bars, dining areas in camps, or in congregate living facilities, and break rooms.

Governor Mills did not change the requirement that face coverings need to be worn in public indoor settings. She also said that the Maine Department of Education will send out an update to school-based protocols separately.

The Town of Falmouth requires all employees and visitors to continue to follow the guidance on wearing face coverings inside all Town facilities, unless the employee is alone in an area separated from others. Except for emergency scenes, Falmouth employees may remove their face coverings while working outside when not interacting with the public. If face coverings are removed they should be readily available and put back on if a member of the public approaches. Falmouth employees are still required to wear face coverings while driving/riding in Town-owned vehicles when not alone.

Falmouth Emergency Management will continue to monitor Maine CDC requirements and publications surrounding COVID-19.
