2017.11.27 Council Agenda Item 09

Summary

A report from the Town Manager on the Browntail Moth forum and a discussion about next steps.

A public comment period will not be included with this item.

ACTION: Council action is not anticipated.

Description

The Town Manager will give a report to the Town Council about the public forum on Browntail Moths that was held on Thursday, November 9, and present a recommendation based, in part, on feedback from residents that attended the forum and familiarity with how other towns are responding to this matter. The first step will be to identify Browntail Moth nests in Town.  To that end, the Town is working with Lucas Tree to conduct a Browntail Moth nest inventory during the week of November 27. The inventory will survey all public roads east of Interstate 295 and select areas west of I295. An email was sent to forum attendees requesting their input on nests on their property, and any residents that wish to participate can contact the Town Manager's office to report nests.

The Town Manager will also recommend a spraying program on town owned property and public streets. He will also pursue options, if available, to allow private property owners to use the town spraying contractor at prices awarded through a town bid process.

Attached are the presentations provided at the public forum.
