Summary
Public hearing on an amendment to Section 8-16 of the Code of Ordinances to extend the moratorium on retail marijuana establishments and retail marijuana social clubs for 180 days.

Description
In May 2017, the Council enacted a moratorium that prohibited retail marijuana establishments and retail marijuana social clubs as defined in the Marijuana Legalization Act. This moratorium granted the Town 180 days to review and establish policy for land use and licensing. The Council established an ad-hoc subcommittee to study the issue and make recommendations to the Council. In October 2017, the Council enacted new language for the moratorium, which granted the Town an additional 180 days. That moratorium is set to expire on April 9, 2018. Moratoria are allowed to be extended in accordance with M.R.S.A 30-A §4356.2.
The ad-hoc committee has met regularly but needs more time to develop their recommendations.They are requesting to extend the moratorium for another 180 days, effective as of March 26, the date of introduction.
