2020.02.03 Council Agenda 10

Summary

Update on December 2019 Public Forum regarding Route 88 intersections with Johnson Road and Depot Road.

A public comment period will not be included with this item.

ACTION: Council action is not anticipated.

Description

This project was last discussed by the Council on September 23, 2019 (item 11). See also: September 23 Council minutes.

BACKGROUND

In summer 2019, based on input from the public, the Town Manager committed to developing some options to improve safety at the Johnson Road-Route 88 intersection. He recommended that an open-ended public forum be conducted to learn more about what the public wants and what ideas and concerns people have. This forum could help drive some of the future design work.

On September 23, 2019 the Council agreed with that approach, gave guidance regarding such an event, and requested that the Route 88-Depot Road intersection be included in this effort. A public forum was held on December 11, 2019 and was attended by approximately 50 people. See link below for results from this forum.

CURRENT STATUS

The feedback gathered at this meeting has been analyzed by Town staff, its traffic consultant from TY Lin, and MaineDOT staff. Several improvement options are in the process of being developed and will be reviewed with the public at a second forum (date TBD).
