Update Regarding Town Services, March 17, 2020

Falmouth EMA Logo

We announced yesterday in our update regarding building closures, that we would provide more information on how we would be able to conduct business transactions with the public during this time. These transactions include, but are not limited to, permits, business licenses, motor vehicle registration, tax payments, etc.

We have decided that any plan will only be relevant based on the most recent situation regarding COVID-19. This continues to be a rapidly evolving situation; therefore, we are not going to develop a standardized business transaction plan that may have to be updated daily. We are now implementing an operations plan that will rely on business transactions to be conducted remotely and electronically. We have staff available to assist with electronic transactions. Staff will also be available to process any transactions by mail. A directory of departments is provided below if you would like assistance. Transactions that are not available electronically or for those people without access to the internet or not able to conduct business electronically, please use the telephone directory below and we will try to help you on a case by case basis.

Temporary Vehicle Registrations

New car registration is not possible through our online system. The Falmouth Police Department has chosen to exercise its enforcement discretion and will not cite motorists for violating the expiration of a 14-day Temporary Registration Plate until further notice. Although the Falmouth Police Department cannot dictate the actions of other law enforcement agencies, Chief John Kilbride has provided residents with a letter to serve as documentation that despite best efforts, you have been unable to register your new vehicle with the Town of Falmouth, beginning on Thursday, March 12, 2020. We hope that this letter provides adequate proof that the operator of a vehicle displaying an expired temporary registration has made attempts to register the vehicle unsuccessfully and therefore, leniency should be granted. Inquiries related to this announcement should be directed to the Falmouth Police Department at 207-781-2300. Click here for Chief Kilbride’s letter.
