A public comment period will not be included with this item.

ACTION: Council action is not anticipated.

Description

On July 24, 2017, the Town Council adopted amendments to the Town’s signage regulations in an effort to bring them into compliance with the 2015 Reed v Gilbert Supreme Court decision prohibiting content-based signage.  The signage amendments that were adopted, among other things, introduced new standards related to maximum lettering size for signs in certain zoning districts.  Councilor Ferrante has requested that the Council have a discussion about the ordinance provisions related to maximum lettering size, especially as those provisions relate to commercial buildings set back at greater distances from the street.

Attached for background material are the three separate ordinance sections that address maximum lettering size.  The specific provisions dealing with maximum lettering size have been highlighted for convenience.
